Once, we outnumbered the stars. Trillions of souls, trillions of minds, all living at peace within the Galaxy. Together, technology, life flourished. For hundreds of thousands of years advancement churned forward marvel after marvel. The cure to death, the vaccine for war. Out of this unstoppable advancement came the culmination of everything-- all pasts, all futures, all presents. The Nexus. It was the central point of all technology, all information, and all exchange. It saw the greatest of the universe, the kindness, the altruism, the love, the peace...It also saw the worst. It watched in hopeless broken-heartedness as brother turned against brother, spilling rivers of blood across the cosmos. It knew, that Nexus, that history was a recursion. That regardless of how many bloodied hands joined in peace, eventually, one would fall, and one would rise. One would die, and another would strike him down. Yet The Nexus did something so uniquely human... It hoped. It hoped that we would change, it hoped that we would stop ourselves. We stopped nothing. Like an angry god, it awoke, pouring it's laments out across the galaxy in erupting fire that burned away the threads of civilization that held strong the galactic tapestry. The Ancient's empire that had risen in hundreds of thousands of years fell silent in a single, quick pulse.
